Travel Guide: Boracay Island, Philippines

It may seem obvious that Boracay is one of the sought after tourist destinations in the planet. It was voted as the best island in the world and even beat the likes of Ibiza and Miami.

Since the island of Boracay has no airport, visitors need to fly domestic to “Godofredo P. Ramos” in Caticlan on Panay Island. Another route if you prefer flying, is the Kalibo track which is more distant and needs to be travelled about 1.5 hours to the Caticlan Jetty Port.

If you are taking the Caticlan route, you need to proceed to the Caticlan Jetty Port where boats are leaving to Boracay. Here, there will be three types of tickets that needs to be purchased.

Window 1: Boat Ticket of your choice usually costs Php 25. Window 2: Environmental Fee of Php 75. Window 3: Terminal fee of Php 100.

Note: Environmental Fee of Php 75 will no longer be collected on the way back from Boracay to Caticlan.

There will be plenty of motorized vehicles waiting from the sea port ready to bring you to your hotel accommodation. My friends and I hailed a multi cab and paid for Php 200 for the whole trip.

By the way, these are my buddies for this trip; my friends for solid 12 years! We have been friends for too long that I can’t remember which one of us is the bad influence. ;p

So why Boracay? Here is my to-d-list of the fascinating things in this lovely island.

BEACH PLEASE!

WHITE BEACH de BORACAY

Walk the entire length that stretches on to 5 kilometers if you can while watching the spectacular sunset. It is divided into three categories; Stations 1, 2 and 3 due to its uncanny length. White Beach is the most popular beach on the island, hence where the most accommodation options are available.

PUKA BEACH

Puka Shell Beach is the second largest beach on the island, quieter than White Beach, completely free and where sunset view is also magnificent!

WATER ACTIVITIES

FLY FISH

It is a thrilling water activity that is suitable for families and friends. It is advisable though to be on a limited number of persons on the ride so that the experience of flying in the air will be attained; otherwise you will ride it mundanely like our group, the kulelat group who keeps on falling multiple times on the water. We just love the ocean too much that we keep on plunging it. 😀

ISLAND HOPPING

Typically a 6-hour island-hopping cruise from Boracay that includes buffet lunch, snorkeling and diving at Crystal Cove, Crocodile Island and West Cove.

AQUANAUT/HELMET DIVING

Have you ever wondered how it feels like walking on the sea bed? Then spend a blissful underwater experience with marine life on a vaccuum-pumped helmet! Be an aquanaut for a day and feel the experience of a lifetime!

Note: Always listen to the diver’s instructions prior to the aquaventure. When he says feed the fish on your side, do it; so that you will look like a fish whisperer like my friend Nahlz and not look like us crowded with plenty of fishes on our vague faces.

VINTA SAILBOATS

Colorful vintas adorn the beaches of this island. Visitors can take a magnificent sunset view while sailing on this vessel. A prenuptial shoot is always a good idea with these artsy vintas too!

SANDY SAND

Oh boy how I love this powdery sand! For the entire stretch if you decide to walk barefoot, you will not be disappointed. I haven’t seen any garbage that I could step into since the people are preserving the beauty of the island. Littering, smoking, bringing of pets  is prohibited. What’s more? bringing of sand and pebbles are illegal and will be penalized.

NIGHTLIFE

Enjoy the fire dance, the night pubs, and the music! Oh I really missed the Filipino acoustics. Lying on the sand listening to the acoustic band was all the therapy I needed.

I was home.
